Treatments

Standard Services

There are 4 programs designed to give your lawn the best results during the year.

These treatments consist of the following plan;

  • 1st Treatment is a combination of a liquid moss control and a granular feed. â€‹

    • Moss becomes very noticeable at the beginning of the year due to the damp conditions as winter draws to an end.
      • Applied Moss killer will reduce already present moss and stunt further growth.
    • As temperature starts to rise, grass will start to grow. The soil may be drained of vital nutrients.
      • Nitrogen an essential requirement is applied which stimulates leaf growth.
      • Phosphates strengthens and helps root growth.
      • Potash to harden your grass making less susceptible to drought and disease.
  • 2nd Treatment is a liquid weed killer and a granular fertiliser.

    • The summer treatment is designed to encourage leaf growth and control weeds, to get the very best looking lawn.

  • 3rd Treatment is a liquid weed killer and a granular fertiliser.

    • A top up as the summer starts to draw to an end and autumn is closing in.

  • 4th Treatment is a combination of a liquid moss control and a granular feed.

    • Temperature starts to drop and grass growth starts to slow down but moss growth starts to accelerate as conditions begin to dampen.

      • A moss killer application will stunt any growth and knock back any growth that has occurred during the summer. (if your lawn has a problem in this area you might want to consider the 5th treatment).

      • A further application fertiliser to strengthen the roots in readiness of the winter.

Thus completes your primary annual chemical treatments, and a truly satisfying looking lawn.

The 5th and final Treatment involves ground work, scarification and aeration.

The build-up thatch and moss will prevent water reaching the roots and choke new growth. It is therefore beneficial to remove this build up by means of scarification. Verge's Lawns strongly recommends this to be included as part of your essential annual program. It also encourages side-shoots and runners.

If your lawn has become compacted this will hold back the growth of roots, prevent water and air penetrating the soil. It is necessary then to aerate your lawn. We recommend that heavily compacted lawns be hollow-tined, but only every 3 years. Spiking however can be done more frequently.

Specialised Treatments

Every now and again lawns can suffer diseases and pests. Most common diseases that affect your lawn are by and large fungi, such as Red Thread or Fusarium. In most cases practical action can be taken to cure and prevent i.e. aeration, good drainage, and not cutting too short, but in extreme cases a chemical spray can be applied to assist.

Pests such a Chafer Grubs and Leatherjackets can really damage a lawn as they feed on the roots and stem bases. Brown patches can be evidence of such said pests and in such cases certain products can be used, although generally they are costly treatments.
